Club World Cup: Barcelona 4-0 Santos – Barca Steamroller Brazil’s Finest In Yokohama (Photos & Highlights)

Key: actual size
You could’ve been forgiven for thinking that yesterday’s Club World Cup final between Barcelona and Santos was some kind of two-man earthworm-charming contest the way ‘You Know Who A’ and ‘You Know Who B’ were mercilessly hyped before kick-off, but it proved that young Neymar spent a dismal afternoon in Lionel Messi’s shadow as Barca rolled over Brazil’s finest in Yokohama.
With Santos thoroughly outclassed from start to finish, Messi scored two ‘Messi’ goals to get the ball rolling with Xavi and Cesc Fabregas padding out the rout to see Barca crowned the de facto ‘best club side in world football’ or some such balderdash. Perhaps more impressive was them actually looking like they cared as the fireworks went off behind them.

Messi the Magician!!! Last Goal was pure class!
OF COURSE they cared! You think that Barcelona would put their best team forward and risk injuring some of the best players in the world (Ahem, Villa?) if they didn’t care about this trophy?
The English mindset regarding “meaningless” trophies is pathetic– the entire country has become a whiny little bitch of a country in the last 20 years or so.
And at the same time you all (fans, journalists, coaches) whine about how the FA Cup and Carling Cup are going downhill and the Europa League is a joke of tournaments yet if you actually put some effort into them, some English teams might have real trophies in their trophy cabinets rather than memories of yesteryear.
It’s some bullshit all or nothing mentality that the only trophies that exist nowadays are the Premier League and Champions league. Take some pride in winning smaller trophies for christ sake and quit belittling the ones where English teams (Save Fulham’s inspiring performance) can’t even make it to the finals.
Trophies are trophies, and if they’re “easy,” then go out and fucking win them.
Get that game out of Yokohama. Would love to see it tour around a little bit.
I dunno where ppl come up with that Messi dives all the time… I hate the Messi bandwagon as much as the next guy.. but the wee man is an honest footballer!
Actually the mindset of the Club World Cup being a meaningless trophy is pretty much everywhere , not just in the UK. I mean the European clubs will always win it. If they added the runner up of the Champions League or even the Europa League winner than it would have some cause to care but as is its meaningless unless ofcourse you are going for the sixtuple which barca were not because they lost the copa del rey to Madrid.
