Just a quickie to keep you abreast of the fact that Peter Crouch has reportedly escaped a three-game game ban and, indeed, will be allowed to get away scot free for his sneak-attack ‘finger of doom’ eye-poke assault on West Brom centre-back Jonas Olsson’s corneas at the Britannia at the weekend – a crime that would almost certainly land you with a six-match ban at the very least in a game as uncivilised as rugby.

The gouge was missed by referee Anthony Taylor but, according to Sky Sports, an FA disciplinary committee have spent today examining video evidence (presumably including the damning footage above) and have apparently come to the conclusion that Crouch will not face any retrospective charges – based solely on the fact that Taylor told the FA that he would not have issued a red card had he seen the incident at the time.

Astounding.

    FA’s Amended Rules for Analyzing Bans

    Any act of violent conduct instigated by a British Player against a Foreign player will result in no ban.

    Any questions?

    Lucky his name isnt balotelli!

    @Gaz very very true mate. How does it take this quick to punish (or not punish) balotelli and crouch yet it took the guts of 3 months to establish a verdict on suarez when those at the weekend are more clear???

    @Tim LOL, very true mate.

    There’s no consistency at all in FA decisions, if you go by the actual rule book.

    If they’re going to be so obviously biased, they should at least be honest enough to put a few extra lines of small print in the rules to explain the apparent inconsistencies, eg:

    “…all FA decisions on who, when, and if to charge and/or ban a player for alleged misconduct will be conditional on the amount of bad media coverage the FA may receive as a result of the aforementioned decisions. Each incident will be dealt with entirely subjectively, player reputations will be considered, public opinion counts highly, and all England Internationals will be dealt with leniently provided the ‘victim’ is not another England International of a higher standing…”
