This clip from the Mexican U20 leagues is doing the rounds today and it’s fantastic in a kind of faith-affirming kind of way.

What you are about to see is Estudiantes U20s winning themselves a penalty after taking advantage of an uncontested drop-ball that should have by rights been given back to Pachuca. Instead, Estudiantes’ Sergio Teran tears through on goal, gets up-ended by the keeper and wins his side a spot-kick.

Dismayed at his side’s unsporting behaviour, Estudiantes coach Mauricio Gallaga wades in and orders his designated penalty-taker Gustavo Mendez to shank the kick wide on purpose – hopefully by yelling “Gustavo! We are Estudiantes! We will settle this…*sultry twang of a flamenco guitar*…the Mexican way…”

Lovely stuff.

Instantly brings Robbie Fowler’s sudden attack of conscience against Arsenal to mind…
