Downright classy stuff from Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark who, during Dynamo’s 2-0 defeat against Seattle Sounders on Friday, yelled ‘f**king f*gg*t’ in a young ballboy’s face after the kid had the temerity to drop the football near him rather than directly at his feet while Clark was trying to take a quick throw.

The homophobic slur was clearly caught on a pitchside microphone and broadcast around the world in glorious panoramic technicolour 3D stereo sound…

What a guy.

Clark later Tweeted an apology:

“I’d like to offer a sincere apology to everyone who watched the game, especially the ball boy for whom I used awful language toward.

“I didn’t mean to disrespect anyone and am sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me. It’s not who I am and it won’t happen again.”

Apparently, Clark has also volunteered himself as a ‘soccer ally’ to help end homophobia in sport. Meanwhile, the MLS have announced they are ‘aware’ of Clark’s little outburst and will now decide if he is to face any punishment – which, presumably, he will.

I don’t know, sports in general are overtly homophobic. I doubt anything more than a slap on the wrist here.

  2. Kenny says:

as a Dynamo fan im rather p/o’ed at Clark over this. The club is opening up a new stadium in May and in a time when the club and fans should be celebrating we’re dealing with another negative bit of PR. what a bonehead.

  3. Al says:

wow, this is unreal, lucky he didn’t call the ballboy a dickhead or he would have to do some community service involving dicks or become a “dick ally” to rid soccer of dickophobia.

  4. Solihull United says:

fifa should make the ball boy apologize for not throwing the ball close enough to him

  5. Solihull United says:

i remember when crouch screamed cunt when the ball went out of play, but hes not joining a rally against well…cunts

  6. Huye says:

Pretty common insult amongst anyone under 30, especially in a competitive setting. Inappropriate, yes. But i find it silly that anyone seriously thinks he was insinuating the ball boy is homosexual.

  7. Ben says:

Huye, you might have slightly missed the point. Nobody is suggesting that he was calling into question the ballboy’s sexuality (though seriously, job titles don’t come much gayer). The problem is, as you say, that it is a common insult, despite being a homophobic slur.

  8. sloth says:

@ Huye, nobody thinks he was insinuating the ball boy is gay. The problem is that he used a derogatory term for a homosexual as an insult, implying that it’s bad to be gay.
What’s silly is the way these words are bandied about today and people don’t fucking think about what they actually mean. He probably isn’t really a homophobe, but that word has come to be a synonym for any other meaningless derogatory term like “dickhead” or anything like that.

    @ Huye: Lol

  10. Mamie says:

Disgusting behaviour, what a bully. Hope he gets a fitting punishment. No way for an adult to behave towards a young person, should be deeply ashamed of himself. Petulant idiot.

if he called the boy a douche, I suppose he would of had to make himself a public ally of douches.
Its a common insult, I wish people would stop being so pc.
