Norway 0-1 England – International Friendly – 26th May 2012

England secured their first win against Norway in 32 years on Saturday evening, courtesy of a single goal from Ashley Young. The United wideman netted superbly inside 10 minutes to give Roy Hodgson a winning start to his England reign, although overall, the Three Lions were rather sloppy in possession.

Andy Carroll did well enough up front while teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his senior debut in a late sub appearance. However, a groin injury sustained by Gareth Barry may well have Hodgson thinking about a replacement for the City man ahead of Euro 2012.

Not a flashy beginning, but a win is a win as they say.

  1. Archbishop Betty Snagcock says:

    god gerrard is not suited to that deep role, it would be england passing it about and then BANG! gerrard tries a 40 yard hollywood pass and we’d lose possesion

    his best position is the one young played last night and who would you rather have based on form?

  2. Shteve McLaren says:

    carroll was awful;

    congrats, he won like one header AND when the chance arose for him to actually do something good, i.e, successfully laying it in to an unmarked young, what does he do?

    he fucks it.

  3. Scott says:

    Glad Rob Green got to exorcise some of the World Cup demons too, he looked relatively assured when called upon – one or two mistakes aside.

    @Shteve McLaren
    What game were you watching?
    Not trying to be mean but you must be quite retarded.

  5. Col says:

    Shteve, you blind fool, Carrol played well – granted, he missed the target with the only opportunity he had all game but was assured when assisting at the back.

    Phil Jones, on the other hand, didn’t do himself any favours. Right-back is arguably England’s most competetive position, yet Roy plays an inexperienced centre-back there? Puzzling.
