There’s no way to possibly undersell just how fantastic Fabio Coentrao was for Portugal last night. As was the case with his opposite number, Jordi Alba, over on the other side, Coentrao was in a state of perpetual motion for 120 straight minutes – his performance only sullied by a booking picked up shortly before halftime for what appeared to be a bit of a mystery offence. ‘He must have said something’ was the only explanation proffered by those in the know.
Turns out the caution was actually administered when Coentrao took umbrage at Pepe Reina hollering from the Spain bench and silenced the ‘keeper with a textbook ‘crotch grab’ gesture, which was spotted by the fourth official who was standing approximately three feet from Reina…
