Rapid Vienna lost 2-1 to Serbian side Vojvodina in the Europa League preliminaries last night, and the goal they conceded to lose it at the death was a right old humdinger.

As the game dwindled to nothing and stoppage time wicked away with the score at 1-1, Rapid ‘keeper Lukas Konigshofer came to claim a cross to relieve the pressure and, upon hearing a whistle sound, assumed the goalkeeper’s union had come to his rescue and duly rolled the ball out to hump it up to halfway.

Unfortunately for our friend Konigshofer, the whistle was actually blown by some clever dick in the crowd and, as the referee hadn’t actually stopped play, Vojvodina striker Milan Bojovic was left free to whack in a 94th-minute winner for his side…

Actually Vojvodina won against Rapid with 2:1, not the other way around.

Question of Sport will love that. I’ve not seen a dog on the pitch for a while, what’s the world coming to?

  3. Lukass says:

Hmmm… actually I watched the game last night, and this was the goal for 2:0, Rapid actually scored after this!

  4. Liam says:

Lukass is right. I don’t know what game you are reporting on but that goal made it 2-0. Two mistakes in one post. Amateur-ish. How about you try researching the game before reporting on it.

@Liam: Come back when you’ve been doing this day in, day out for three years straight buddy. Mistakes happen.

Comedy gold. But I remember even more hilarious incident – 1999, UEFA Cup, Parma already beating Bordeaux 5:0 when Fench defender hears an imaginary whistle and… catches the ball in the box. Only to concede a red card and a penalty. That was crazy
