Tangled up in Blaugrana

The first of this season’s inevitable sequence of several thousand El Clasicos was a bit of a ripsnorter, with Barcelona taking first blood in the two-legged Spanish Supercopa final by virtue of a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid at the Camp Nou – all five goals coming in a blistering second half.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring ten minutes after half-time, heading home a corner (whoever was flashing that damned laser pen about, may your fingers wither and shed like snake skin), with Pedro scampering in behind and instantly equalising from the prevailing kick-off.

Lionel Messi put Barca 2-1 up from the spot on the 70-minute mark after Sergio Ramos had chopped Andres Iniesta down in the area, with Iniesta then sashaying through a couple of tackles and sliding a ball through for Xavi to steer past Iker Casillas eight minutes later.

In the interest of providing a more enticing fixture next time out at the Bernabeu, Victor Valdes then dropped an impeccably-timed bollock of sizeable proportions, providing the bumbling assist for Angel Di Maria to pull one back for Madrid with five minutes to play…

Doh.
