David Beckham’s five-and-a-smidge-year stint in LA ended in silverware after Galaxy beat Houston Dynamo 3-1 in the MLS Cup Final to retain the trophy having won it last time out too.

With Robbie Keane successfully dispatching a last-minute penalty to make it 3-1 (you’d have thought they’d let Becks take it?) Beckham was subbed off with seconds of the game remaining and received a standing ovation from the Home Depot Centre Stadium crowd, getting a little choked up as he meandered his way from the pitch…

Beckham has really raised the profile of the MLS, I live in the U.S. and had no idea the game was on until I looked at the Guardian website for Premier league scores and saw there was 10 minutes to go of the MLS final. He’ll really be missed.

See how the referee tried to stop the players from congratulating him? Let him have the moment man, by golly.

    @ r

So he really raised the profile yet you had no idea the MLS Final was on?

Stick to what you guys know. Slow, tedious, commercial-laden ‘sport’ like NFL and MLB.

@SlasherHands: you’re walking off the pitch during a cup match while your teams only up by a goal shaking hands with people and wasting time. how could he not?

  8. Steve says:
