Miroslav Stoch’s Superb Stylish Volley Wins 2012 Puskas Award For ‘Goal Of The Year’ (Video)
By Chris Wright
Former Chelsea and current Fenerbahce winger Miroslav Stoch has been bestowed with the 2012 Puskas Award after his superbly effortless volley against Genclerbirligi was selected by visitors to FIFA.com, FIFA’s Youtube page and francefootball.fr as their goal of the year from the 10-goal shortlist.
For some tawdry reason FIFA don’t allow embedding of their Youtube videos, but you can have a gander at Stoch’s sublime winning goal in decent definition by following this ‘ere link…
Here’s a low-grade version of the footage…
Lovely. That reverse camera angle on FIFA’s official video really shows just what a clean, controlled strike it was.
What say you Pies fans? Was Stoch a worthy winner?

Definitely a worthy winner. You see so many volleys where the ball is coming across the player – Stoch’s strike was achieved almost face-on to the ball.
A great volley, not a random blast which incidentally found the net
A fine goal to be sure, but not as stunning as Gaston Mealla’s scorpion goal or Falcao’s similar volley of a higher and therefore more difficult service to a perfect placement in the upper corner.
Fair to say, it was a decent strike, he hit it well.
But that’s it, one hit with the foot. I mean look at Neymar again, that is pure class. Pace, movements, dribbling, tricks and a cheaky finish. Or Falcao’s bicycle belter. Those were better in my honest opinion. One final remark, it’s ridiculous only goals until October count or something like that. Zlatan would have won this one easily.
People need to stop yapping about the Zlatan goal, sure it was brilliant but it was in a friendly (Ultimately counts for nothing) and was only possible in large part due to the error of Joe Hart.
I think this was the best goal of the three but the Cisse goal against Chelsea deserved to be there over Neymar’s.
