Uruguayan domestic football is currently on a ten-game suspension after the authorities reached the end of their collective tethers when violence marred Penarol’s recent fixture against rivals Nacional (the Nacional ‘keeper punched a riot cop in the face), though the Copa Bimbo – an exhibition tournament between teams from around South America – is still being played, with the rescheduled final between Penarol and Atletico Rafaela providing one of football’s most joyful sights: Penarol fans in full swing…

Now that’s an atmosphere!

   This was just an exhibition match. You need to see the video for Penarol vs Velez in the semifinal of the Cops Libertadores for the “full Monte”.
