Bournemouth’s Eunan O’Kane Suffers Calamitous Penalty Cock-Up – Always Play To The Whistle! (Video)
By Chris Wright
No doubt a fair few of you will have seen this by now as we’re a few days late on the uptake, but this is for the benefit of those who haven’t had their lives graced by Eunan O’Kane’s catastrophic balls-up at the weekend.
Poor old Bournemouth defender O’Kane gave away the daftest penalty we’ve seen in a long while by picking up the ball in his own area after mistakenly assuming that his teammate being chopped down on the edge of the box would constitute a free-kick and throwing the time-old footballing adage of “always playing to the whistle” clean out of the window…
We remember Alfe Inge-Haaland doing the exact same thing for Forest a good few years ago. You’ve got to feel for the lad. Every fibre of his being was telling him that was a foul (which it most definitely was) and he acted on instinct.
Shame that he ended up looking like a complete and utter berk as a result!

The referee is massive twat. Blatant foul, he did that to prove a point.
look at the players. “oi ref, free kick..no, no, penalty”. shouldn’t of been given for that alone.
I seem to remember Mikaël Silvestre did this for Manchester United a few years back. There was a throw-in and somebody threw the ball to him, but the idiot picked the ball up because he thought he was throwing it to him to do the throw! Referee gave a free-kick for a hand-ball!
@Liam: Not so. Referees should not stop play immediately, even in the case of a blatant foul to look for an advantage. A defender conceding a penalty after a blatant foul outside the area certainly is an advantage. Top refereeing.
