Can’t you read the sign? Nigeria are the WINNERS of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after beating surprise package Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final on Sunday evening to snaffle their third AfCoN title – squeezing out The Stallions thanks to a solitary goal from Sunday Mba, and a canny little volley it was too.

To be quite frank, we’ve been largely underwhelmed by this year’s tournament, what with the vast majority of group games being fairly ponderous and a high percentage of the goals coming from the spot. Safe to say we’re no closer to seeing an African side win the World Cup any time soon, indeed it seemed like the overall standard of African football has slipped ever so slightly since last year’s tournament.

Don’t get us wrong, there have been some corking games, but there’s been just a little too much filler to get us hooked.

Curmudgeonly griping: Over.
