FC Basel’s Aleksandar Dragovic Sent Off For ‘Over Aggressive’ Goal Celebration (Video)
By Chris Wright
Austrian centre-back Aleksandar Dragovic scored both goals in FC Basel’s 2-1 win over Servette in the Swiss Super League on Sunday, though his afternoon came to an abrupt end after he nodded in the second goal after the referee deemed his celebration to be over-aggressive and sent the 21-year-old defender off…
Having headed home, Dragovic charged up the touchline and appeared to make an ‘up yours’ gesture towards the Servette fans which the the referee obviously deemed to be overly provocative – though, as the defender later explained to reporters, he was actually aiming it at Basel’s assistant manager:
“I had a bet with our assistant coach. If I scored with my head, I would have to run around the field. The gesture was aimed at him, not the Servette fans.”
To be honest, even it the gesture was aimed at the home fans that red card would’ve been soft as puddin’.

to be correct, it was a yellow card, but “unfortunately” his second one
Technically, it was a mistake by the Referee as he should have given the player a straight red card.
