Here’s a classic blast of Cloughie getting into his gin-soaked, cantankerous and semi-lucid stride while laying into “unshaven Cockney spiv” Alan Sugar (then Tottenham chairman), the nature of football chairmen, King Eric, Stan Collymore’s multicoloured hair and several other pressing subjects after ever-so-possibly having one too many in the green room before an appearance on ITV’s ‘Sport in Question’ hosted by Ian St John and Jimmy Greaves in 1995…

(Many thanks to Pies’ live-in lover and confidante @dannylooseleaf for the nudge)

  1. Ryan says:

Is that a young BBC 5 Live’s Darren Fletcher asking the questions?

  2. ollyarsenal says:

    legend…

  3. Paul says:

    I thought the same.
Must be the same Darren Fletcher. They look the same.

i do enjoy a bit of clough. they don’t make them like that anymore. well maybe if mourinho got drunk on telly.

think what he could’ve done with england if the fa weren’t such scrotums. what did derby and forest achieve before and after clough? pretty much nothing (i may be wrong there)

  5. The69ersFC says:

@ Ryan -indeed it is. He was Century FMs (east mids) roving sports reporter in the late 90s before he got the 5 live gig.

  6. Neil says:

Even more shocking is his comment on Justin Fashnu…

  7. tipo 00 says:

and who’s the black guy? he looks like that lenny henry character.

  8. NickNFFC says:

The ‘black guy’, for you kids who know nothing of our bygone sporting greats, is none other than Clive LLoyd, one of the best West Indian (or other nationality for that matter) batsmen and captain!

Darren Fletcher was Forest commentator for a few seasons before Century appointed a woman manager and I think she stopped football commentaries and Radio Nottm got it back. Did him a favour really I suppose!!

  9. Chris says:

Nobody else ‘twig’ Cloughie’s pretty homophobic remarks about Justin Fashanu?

  10. Choon says:

Ahhhh, that’s cheered me up on an otherwise dull workday… Thank you very much Pies!

@Chris – I’d like to think the comment was more about Fashnu’s ability than his sexuality (ie he ‘twigged’ that he’d been ripped off)… But with Cloughie unfortunately you may be right…
