San Marino – England – 2014 World Cup Qualifiers – 22nd March 2013

Cheapskates…

Not really much to say about the game. It went as one would have expected it to.

The goals came from an own-goal, Oxo-Chamberpot, Jerry Defoe (a brace), Ash Young, Frankie Lamps, Big Wayne  Rooney and Dan Sturridge.

Oh, and the travelling fans, through the medium of song, had a right pop at Rio Ferdinand and his ‘pre-planned programme’.

The only thing I will say is, good luck to San Marino. Too many people want these kind of miniscule sides to play in some sort of pre-qualifying tournament before playing the bigger boys. Well why should they? They’re a European country so they’re entitled to the same treatment as the giants of the continents. So there!

Here’s how Group H looks now…

Well I personally think it’s utter arse having these kinds of teams play games like this. I agree they deserve the same respect as any team, but the fact is, they’re on about the same level as AFC Wimbledon. And even AFC Wimbledon have to go through pre-qualification for the FA Cup.

montenegro is ahead of england on points. . . lulz

The England Supporters Band should be banned from every country in the world.

  4. Grant says:

Literally every other confederation except CONMEBOL who have 10 members has a tiered qualification system. There’s nothing wrong with it. San Marino and Andorra et al. could play off against each other and at least allow UEFA to have even numbered groups so teams don’t play different numbers of games and you have to do the nonsense of all but one of the runners up qualify for play-offs or whatever nonsense you have. Not to mention that San Marino won’t improve by getting drubbed 8-0 any more than you or I would by being out there. But playing real competitive games with nations at their level would allow them to genuinely improve.

  5. Jarren says:

That’s a bit unfair on Wimbledon. They’re a professional side.

San Marino had, what, 2 professional players in their squad?

We’re talking Conference Premier at best here.

@ Terry Shedingham Damn right, I despise those fuckers, they should be forced to surrender their passports before every England away match.
We’re not much better though, the fuckin Fields of Athenry is doing my head in.
