Video: Guti Wows Spain With Brilliant Backheel Assist Against Deportivo
By Ollie Irish
Interested to hear Sid Lowe on the Guardian’s latest Football Weekly podcast. He talked about how the Spanish media went nuts for Guti’s assist in Real Madrid’s win at Deportivo La Coruna (Real’s first victory there since 1991). Of course, I immediately checked out said assist on the YouTubes. And here it is:
Very cute and poetic, if not quite as wonderful as I’d imagined on hearing about it. And of course, if Benzema had missed and that miss had cost Real the game – they ran out 3-1 winners – then Guti would have been chased out of Madrid by a pitchfork-wielding mob. Still, you have to admire his balls. So to speak. It’s the sort of nutty move Chris Waddle would have tried when he was at Marseille.

I heard “the Doctor’s” description and felt the same. It’s still good.
