Veteran Swiss goal glutton Alex Frei played his last ever competitive game at the weekend before he turns in his gun and badge to become FC Lucerne’s new sports director (in fact, he started his new job today) and the 33-year-old signed off in fitting style by sticking away a suitably sweet freekick against FC Zurich…

Things got emotional after the game, with Frei – the all-time leading scorer for the Swiss national side – taking to the pitch through a massive guard of honour and unsuccessfully stifling the tears as he thanked the fans of the club he began and ended his 16-year career with for their years of support and adoration…

Legend. Swiss legend. Level-pegging with Toblerone.

Well played Alex, well played.
