England 1-1 Republic of Ireland – International Friendly – 30th May 2013

Britain Soccer England Republic of Ireland

For the fourth time in a row, England and Ireland played out a 1-1 draw, this time at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

The visitors opened the scoring on 13 minutes, courtesy of a superb Shane Long header from a equally fine Seamus Coleman cross. However, Frankie Lamps  leveled the scores just 10 minutes later after some dodgy Irish defending saw him left with just ‘keeper David Forde to prod past from close range.

After the break, a rather tired looking England were the more likely to score, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain impressing in midfield. However, ultimately the game would end in yet another 1-1 result. Oh, and captain Ashley Cole, despite all the pre-match hoo-haa over the armband, got quite a decent reception from the Wembley crowd.

england are so shit and boring and have been for years and years. they can’t even beat ireland (half of whom are probably english anyway) at home. ireland must be on a par with a championship/league 1 team, and they draw 1-1. i can’t even rememeber the last time i saw a good match with england.

  2. TAYPOT says:

Alan, dude, you’re losing the plot lately…its Wednesday when the match was played. This after the “furher” incident. Ya need to get your A-game back. And tipo no, half the irish team aren’t english.

  3. Jarren says:

To be honest the England squad have been no better than any average European side since, well, forever.

One World Cup almost 50 years ago hardly grants England any kind of right.

Average team, full of some gifted individuals.

Not quite so dissimilar to Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Poland…

At least the Irish know where they stand, instead of constantly being deluded.

The day England starts supporting their own young homebrew players into the Premier League, all will go well. A lesson germany had to learn 2002, too.

@TAYPOT: Blame the Bank Holiday. I’ve got no idea what day it is either.

  6. Rory says:

Two shite teams playing stone age football… Coleman and McCarthy were the only starting Irish players with any technique to speak of (McGeady too maybe but his final ball is non existent). Ireland might have the making of a half decent team in a few years but I wish Trap and his brand of football would just fuck off at this stage.

@taypot – while my flippant ‘half are probably english’ comment was incorrect, i thought i thought i’d have a quick look at the current ireland squad. it shows 11 out of 28 were born in england, scotland or northern ireland (quite a few qualify through grandparents). so that’s a over a third (39%) that are from the uk. i stand corrrected (wasn’t far off though!)

Can someone please do something about that brass band that shows up to every English game? I seem to remember they were banned from a stadium or two in The Ukraine, fair fucks to the Ukrainians. Nearly prefer the English fans from the match in 1995…

  9. Terry Shedingham says:

Too right, I hate the England supporters’ band too, especially now that they’re helping to proliferate that nauseating White Stripes song, despite the fact that it couldn’t possibly have anything less to do with football.

  10. TravisKOP says:

Gods nothing is more obnoxious than a brass fucking band. makes me feel like im at a university American football game in the states! The only way England will stop being shit is when a manager comes in that isn’t shit, hodgson cant even manage a halfway decent prem side what makes you lot think he can manage the national side? (rhetorical question not posed to comments)

@Terry: Jesus I agree, I dunno who started the 7 nation army bollocks but its starting to get on my tits
