Italy San Marino Soccer

Italy spanked San Marino 4-0 in an international friendly at Bologna’s Stadio Dall’Ara last night with Andrea Pirlo delving into his magic beard of tricks to provide the evening’s highlight with a majestic free-kick, swept into the very top corner with aplomb aplenty…

Not for the first time when it comes to Pirlo, we’ve gone all weak at the knees.

Italy’s second string won courtesy of goals from Andrea Poli, Alberto Gilardino, Andrea Pirlo and Alberto Aquilani with the game also marking the first time two Bologna players – Alessandro Diamanti and Alberto Gilardino – have started a match for the Azzurri since 1967.

Trivia-riffic.

Considering it was Italy against San Marino, I wouldn’t claim that 4-0 was a ‘spanking’. I think San Marino must have done a pretty good job to keep the score that low.

It’s quite depressing that teams regarded as the ‘top’ international teams are able to smash lower standard international teams comfortably, however England fail to do that a lot of the time. Disappointing.

  4. Herman says:

Wow. Beating San Marino a whopping 4-0 at home. Very impressive.
