Flashback: Brian Clough Analyses Brighton’s 8-2 Defeat By Bristol Rovers, December 1973

By Ollie Irish

Imagine Fergie or Rafa or Arsene going on Sky Sports and sitting down to analyse an 8-2 defeat – the day after the match.

That’s effectively what Brian Clough did in December 1973, after his Brighton side were hammered 8-2 at home by Bristol Rovers. Except for Sky Sports, read ITV (and the excellent Brian Moore, complete with textbook combover).

It makes fascinating viewing, if only because you so rarely see top managers open up like this, least of all to offer up punditry on their own team.

  1. Grant says:

Screw the combover, Moore’s tie might as well be a bib.
