Despite the fact that they were unbeaten in their group, finishing top of the pile with the tournament’s top goalscorer to date (Sporting Lisbon winger Bruma) among their number, Portugal were ejected from the FIFA U20 World Cup in the round of 16 when they were beaten 3-2 by Ghana on Wednesday afternoon – though it could have been oh so different.
Just 12 seconds into the game, Portugal striker Aladje was gifted a golden chance to get his country off to a stonking start, but unfortunately the 19-year-old forward suffered some kind of horrific brain spasm when presented with a ball at his feet just a couple of yards out from a gaping goal…
Oh dear, oh dear and, indeed, oh dear.
