Classic Moments: Germany’s 1994 World Cup Anthem – ‘Far Away In America’ Feat. The Village People (Video)

By Chris Wright

What we have here is a football song that we’d completely repressed until we re-watched it this morning and all the nauseating nostalgia came flooding back like a tidal wave of rotten offal: Germany’sĀ anthem for the USA ’94 World Cup, entitled “Far Away In America” and masterfully performed by the squad with a little help from – who else? – The Village People…

Lothar Matthaus in his element there.

Massive thanks to Pies fan Nick, who left a link to this little gem under the crease of yesterday’s article about the godawful song produced by the 2013 MLS All-Stars, the unforgettable (truly in the worst way possible) early 90′s hip-hop pastiche, “We’re Better Than The Best“.

Apropos of nothing in particular, does that memory bleaching company from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind actually exist? If so, does anyone have their number?

I just want to say, I hate Jimmy Carr.

David Hasselhoff must’ve been unavailable or something. That’s a shame.

    Mark Lamarr, even?
