In which, during the Ligue 1 tie between the two sides on Sunday afternoon, FC Nantes midfielder Lucas Deaux craftily circumvents Rennes’ offside trap by ushering an offside striker out of the way and getting on the end of his very own through-ball and steering the ball around keeper Benoit Costil and into the vacant goal…

Now there’s one you don’t see every day! For the record, Nantes went on to win 1-3.

i’m pretty sure the ref should’ve stopped play and awarded rennes a free kick for offside play, no? it was clearly meant as a pass to a team mate in an offside position!

  2. s says:

if the linesman raises his flag why didnt play stop? unfair to rennes

  3. Tim says:

So unfair! you can even see the player chasing the pass down stops running when the flag is raised..the goalkeeper is clearly distracted as well! Even though the offside striker didnt touch the ball he was active in that he confused rennes defenders

i thought the rule says you dont play the ball twice from a setpiece
