AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes has been saddled with a not-too-shabby four-game ban by the Lega Serie for thumping his Juventus counterpart, Giorgio Chiellini, in the back of the head during Sunday night’s meeting between the two sides in Turin.

As the pair tussled in the Milan six-yard box while waiting for Andrea Pirlo to ping a corner in, Mexes swung a fist down into the back of Chiellini’s neck and, while it was hardly the most devastating blow, violent conduct is violent conduct baby!

The incident went unseen and unpunished at the time, though Chiellini implored the Italian football authorities to “punish Mexes heavily” after the game and lo, the four game ban was metered out: one game for Mexes’ subsequent sending-off for a second yellow later in the match and three games for his sucker punch, which was caught thanks to footage supplied by Sky Sport Italia.

Just what Milan need, languishing in 12th having shipped 13 goals in 7 league games so far this season.
