Over in the South African Premier League on Saturday evening, the Kaizer Chiefs beat the Bidvest Wits 2-1 to draw level with them on points in 5th and 6th spot in the table, though their victory wasn’t without controversy – not that said controversy seemed to phase anybody in the stadium at the time.

Midway through the second half, Chiefs centre-half Morgan Gould took it upon himself to floor Wits striker Getaneh Kebede with a vicious left-handed punch that immediately sent his opponent to the ground.

Gould’s knock-out blow came less than three metres away from the referee, who’s eyes were fixed firmly on the tussling duo, yet the South African international defender wasn’t given so much as a ticking off or even a disparaging glare from the official, let alone a card of any colour!

Weirder still, not one Wits player even remotely appealed the decision (or lack thereof) while the two commentators on duty seemed to treat Gould’s punch as an everyday occurrence, barely raising their voices to acknowledge the foul as Kebede lay sprawling on the turf.

Everybody was just totally cool with it…

Lee Cattermole needs to move to South Africa, like…yesterday!
