As part of their year-long 150th birthday celebrations, the FA commissioned poet and sport scribe Musa Okwonga to write an ‘Ode to Football’ which has been released this week to mark the 150th anniversary of the exact week that Ebenezer Cobb Morley first drafted football’s rulebook back in 1863.

Okwonga’s brilliant poem examines the English and their love for the game in all its forms; from grass roots to park football to the national game; with a few helping hands from well-known faces – some that you don’t immediately want to hit with a spade: Steven Gerrard, Arsene Wenger, Theo Walcott: and some that you do: John Bishop, Ant & Dec, Nick Grimshaw.

And it’s all backed from some beautifully-shot footage taken from the The National Football Museum’s new film, ‘Our Beautiful Game’, the full version of which can be seen if you toddle along to the museum’s new galleries in Manchester.

Enjoy…
