Brazil coach Dunga seems to have made up his mind that he can win the World Cup without the creative spark of Ronaldinho. The AC Milan star did not feature against Ireland on Tuesday and seems likely to miss out on a trip to South Africa (England will take him off your hands).
The supposed reason why Dunga, a prosaic player in his day, doesn’t fancy Ronaldinho is because Ron doesn’t do enough tracking back, preferring instead to stand upfield with his hands on his hips, waiting for the ball to find him again.
But, the REAL reason why Dunga doesn’t want to pick Ronaldinho can be seen in this video, in which the latter absolutely takes the piss out of Dunga in a Brazilian league match in 1999:
Ronaldinho, starting out with Gremio, made his current national-team boss look a bit of a fool and I’m sure Dunga, who was then at the end of his playing career, has never forgotten it.
