As part of the continuing promo drive for their new movie ‘Ride Along’, former NWA rapper Ice Cube and comedian Kevin Hart dropped into the talkSPORT studios yesterday and were immediately pressed into critiquing three of the English nation’s finest football/rap hybrid offerings – two from John Barnes in ‘World In Motion’ and ‘The Anfield Rap’ and a third in the tuneless guise of Andy Cole’s 1999 masterpiece, ‘Outstanding’.

We shudder every time we remember that actually happened.

Anyway, it’s safe to say that Mr. Cube wasn’t particularly impressed with the rap skills on display, with Hart also admonishing Cole’s effort for attempting to sound gangsta with a name like ‘Andy’…

And now, because it would be remiss of us not to do so, here’s the ‘Anfield Rap’ and ‘Outstanding’ in their respective entireties.

Enjoy…

“United forever / Whatever the weather / Less than a hundred per cent? Never!”

“Seven-point-five mill record-maker / Rapping on the mic I’m a record-breaker / Got my kicks from hitting the net / Never from drugs: You bet!”

According to the official stats, ‘Outstanding’ peaked at no.68 in the UK charts, staying there for one week and one week only.

It’s not hard to see (or hear) why.
