Having scored the opening goal of the game against Sydney FC in the 23rd minute, Brisbane Roar striker Besart Berisha had his afternoon ended incredibly prematurely just 17 minutes later when the Albanian international was shown a straight red card after a piece of utterly ridiculous simulation.

After understandably riling Sydney’s Sebastian Ryall by lunging wildly into a 50/50 tackle, Berisha was then clonked in the face by his own team-mate, Thomas Broich, while he was grounded.

Berisha, who has a bit of a rep for feigning and flopping down under, then proceeded to writhe and buck hysterically around on the floor like a stabbed salmon.

After allowing Berisha to finish his little am-dram histrionics display, the referee then marched over and sent the Roar forward off with a straight red card – presumably for the initial “challenge”, though we’d like to think that the terrible play-acting had something to do with it too…

Now, admittedly Berisha obviously sustained a couple of minor cuts to his face during the tangle, but they were at the hands – or kneecaps, to be precise – of a fella on his own team.

He was deliberately attempting to get an opponents punished and/or save his own skin to an opponent’s cost and got exactly what he deserved, even if we do say so ourselves!

but there was “contact” so it cant be simulation according to the pundits!

  2. Eeny says:

That was embarrassing to watch. If he was on my team we would not be best friends.

  3. Russki says:

I can’t believe the commentators are all on his side – he’s a cheating little weasel who deserved to be sent off for his play-acting alone!

  4. Wesley says:

Reckless challenge, the idea to jump in on a situation like that alone deserves a red, even though he doesn’t really hit his opponent. The simulation afterwards makes it even more ridiculous.

  5. Trap says:

How ridiculous is this article?! Can you not see the massive gash that this player has on his head?! He obviously got his head pushed into his own player! That was a 50/50 for both players so punishment should have been equal.

  6. Herman says:

Both players in the initial challenge should have been sent off, the orange dude for the challenge (jumping in with 2 feet, studs showing) and the blue dude for his reaction

  7. Tom the Bees fan says:

what massive gash. i see a small cut

  8. Billboard says:

Both players had one foot with studs up and the other leg trailing not with studs up. It is ryalls studs that connect with berisha and it’s berishas trailing leg that connects with ryalls. Berishas problem was he lunged in rather than sliding in so it attracted more attention. Berisha should have grabbed his leg where Ryals got him he might have got more sympathy from the ref.

    Total red! Good work ref!
