Sadly it emerged slightly too late for inclusion on our recent run-down of football’s finest fair play failures but, over in the Italian Serie D last weekend, the game between Fersina Perginese and Dro Calcio played host to a truly vintage fair play bollock-up, all thanks to the ineptitude of the Dro goalkeeper.

With play having stopped for an “injury”, Fersina attempted to return the ball to their opponents to get things under-way – rolling a harmless (at least, you’d think it was harmless) pass back to the Dro stopper.

However, the keeper (who Portuguese sports tabloid A Bola admirably describe as a “monumental chicken guardian”, at least according to Google Translate) completely fluffed it and somehow conspired to allow the ball to trickle through his legs and into the goal.

Now, given the immense craptitude on display, Fersina found themselves under no obligation to right their opponents’ wrongs, but in an immense display of sporting chivalry they duly allowed Dro to waltz up the pitch and score an uncontested goal to once again level things up…

For the record, the game ended 3-3.
