We’re not entirely sure if it’s been officially verified, but it is thought that Valencia’s Seydou Keita (once of Barcelona) may now be able to lay claim to having scored the fastest goal in La Liga history after taking just 7.6 seconds to break down Almeria’s really rather pitiful defences last night.
Despite the fact that Almeria did the kicking off, a wretchedly under-hit back-pass saw the Mali midfielder sprint through and slide a finish past the ‘keeper to put Valencia 0-1 up in under eight seconds..
Now as we say, we’ve no idea if Keita’s goal is actually the fastest goal in La Liga history as the timing is yet to be verified – but we do know that Joseba Llorente, then of Vallodolid, holds the previous record after notching against Espanyol in 2008 with just 7.82 seconds on the clock (despite what the timer says on this ‘ere clip)…
