The man they affectionately call ‘The Tractor’ ploughed his last furrow last night, with Javier Zanetti making his 863rd and final appearance for Inter Milan before his impending retirement at the grand old age of 40.

If it ain’t broke, etc, etc.

Playing in a shirt with ‘Zanetti 4 Ever’ on the back and wearing a special captain’s armband featuring the same slogan along with the names of every single team-mate he’s played alongside at Inter, the Argentinian veteran (wh0 is due to become Inter’s sporting director as of next season) came on for the last 35 minutes of Inter’s resounding 4-1 win over Lazio at the Giuseppe Meazza in their final home game of the season, duly receiving a rapturous standing ovation from the sell-out crowd after the game as he said his tearful goodbyes.

It all got a bit emotional…
