France Soccer Awards

Wee, say le bon!

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was crowned the Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the second season running last night, also picking up trinkets for ending 2013/14 as the French top flight’s top goalscorer and the scorer of the league’s most beautiful goal (for this handsome brute against Bastia in October).

Now, while the Swede is fluent is several languages, it appears that French is not one of them as, while addressing the people of France to thank them for recognising his obvious superiority, Zlatan’s stilted Gallic acceptance speech reduced PSG team-mates Salvatore Sirigu and Marco Verratti to fits of laughter in the audience…

Neither have been seen or heard from since.

  1. Lady B says:

What’s the bet those two giggle-pots can barely speak any other language besides French? At least Zlatan’s trying!

  2. Lady C says:

They’re both Italian, so they speak two languages you idiot

  3. Nick says:

Well bearing in mind theyre italian lady B…

  4. pfmufc007 says:

    @ Lady B
They’re both from Italy so I’d guess they can probably both speak Italian too.

  5. Jarren says:

    Ways to kill yourself #463:

    Laugh at Zlatan

  6. Cosa says:

French and Italian are both romance languages and incredibly easily to learn/partially mutually intelligible should you be fluent in one. Would like to see those two clowns have a go at Swedish.

  7. Lady B says:

Apologies! As a South African, I speak neither French nor Italian myself, but I sure as hell wouldn’t laugh at anyone attempting to speak a language besides their own.

  8. dorcia says:

The point is Sirigu is speaking very well french and Verratti does not at all. The three of them arrived in PSG at the same time (2 years ago) and only one made the effort to learn the language.
