Raheem Sterling joined Trevor Cherry as one of only two England players to be sent off in a friendly game after the Liverpool wingman was shown his marching orders against Ecuador on Wednesday. Cherry’s came against Argentina in 1977, by the way.

To be fair to Sterling, it was a rash challenge but one which could easily have seen the ref only handing out a booking. However, Valencia’s reaction, in which he grabbed Sterling’s throat was rather over-the-top and got the Man Utd man sent off too.

Why was the ref so dramatic about it? It seemed like this happened
    REF:
(calmly) All right guys its just a friendly no need for all that- BAM! Red for you! BAM! Red for you!

  2. Jarren says:

    Exactly, Ali!

“Ok Raheem, that was a rather silly tackle wasn’t it? And Antonio, was there really any need for that reaction? Come on guys, shake hands and…

    RED CARD BITCHES”

  3. Bestie says:

Wilshere, who do you think you’re impressing? Valencia craps bigger than you

  4. syndex says:

Looked like he was practicing magic trick, “is this your card, Ha better than blaine did you see their faces”.

  5. Ubietz says:

    To be fair:

    1) Scissor motion, feet both off the ground at one stage, reckless and not needed. Could have been a yellow but ref gave a red. A little harsh but can’t really argue.
    2) Valencia’s reaction was stupid but understandable as he has suffered a serious injury before. Instant red though.

    Wilshere is a chump.

    Wait until Uruguay face England.

Valencia’s reaction was over the top?

Was it balls. The last time someone jumped in on him like that he was left with his foot hanging off.

Oh and for what it’s worth Wilshere looks like a toddler in the deep end at his community pool…. well out of his depth.

Valencia had on the captain’s band, right? Well, that makes it a little bit worse to go in like that on the team captain.

Pretty terrible tackle, probably not a red card.

Valencia’s reaction…eh, not a red card either. Nothing wrong with a bit of a shove, a grab, and slight choke. I don’t think soccer is a sport for wimps, but nothing wrong with roughing a guy up after he comes in on you like that.

I think the tackle was *maybe* red worthy, but not the reaction at all.
