Ivory Coast came from a goal down to secure an opening game victory against a decent Japanese side. Milan playmaker Keisuke Honda opened the scoring on 16 minutes courtesy of a cracking striker but the game changed on the introduction of Didier Drogba at half-time.

The Elephants’ goals came in a two-minute burst just after the hour-mark, with Swansea’s Wilfried Bony and then Roma’s Gervinho both netting after good work from Arsenal target Serge Aurier. Drogba’s presence had unsettled the Japanese defence from the start of the second-half and the ex-Chelsea legend went close with a couple of efforts as his side ultimately held on to take all three points.
