As in the Belgium v Algeria game, it was the introduction of substitutes in the second-half which would have a major bearing on the outcome of this clash.

Neither side created a lot of chances but it was the South Koreans who would eventually take the lead, when goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev made an unholy mess of sub Lee Keun-ho’s long-range effort. Russia coach Fabio Capello reacted by bringing on Igor Denisov and Aleksandr Kerzhakov and it was the Zenit St. Petersburg striker who would level the scores when he fired home after the impressive Alan Dzagoev (another sub) had his shot saved by Korean ‘keeper Jung Sung-ryong.

While a point is better than nothing, both sides will need to up their game if they are to make it out of Group H. Oh, and ex-Arsenal squad member and Watford loanee Park Chu-Young played. He’s alive!
