Belgium produced another rather dull but effective performance on Thursday, beating South Korea by a goal to nil despite going a man down just before the break.

Porto midfielder Steven Defour was shown red for a horrible lunge on Kim Shin-wook  but after the break the Belgians produced a fine display. The Koreans struggled create enough decent chances despite hitting the frame of the goal once and ultimately it was the Europeans who would secure the win, courtesy of Jan Vertonghen’s late strike which ended South Korea’s chances of landing a last 16 berth.

Marc Wilmots’ charges march on, having taken nine out of nine points in the group stages and conceding just one goal via a penalty.
