A late strike from Sone Aluko kept alive Hull City’s hopes of making the Europa League proper after they overcame a gritty Trencin side at the KC Stadium.

The Slovakian side had taken the lead early doors, courtesy of a goal from Tomas Malec, to go 1-0 up on aggregate with a precious away goal to boot. However, just before the half-hour mark, Robbie Brady found Ahmed Elmohamady who headed home the equaliser.

Steve Bruce’s side pushed for the winner and eventually it came when Aluko headed home after good work from both Elmohamady and Tigers’ new-boy Robert Snodgrass.

The Tigers now go into Friday’s draw for the Europa League play-off round.
