Taking a leaf out of Icelandic side FC Stjarnan’s well-worn book, Latvian first division table-toppers FK Ventspils decided to go all out in the “choreographed goal celebration” stakes by marking their solitary goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Liepaja by posing for a team photo – complete with a boot-wielding “cameraman”…

According to Latvian football writer Agris Suveizdis, Ventspils are reported to have received a warning from FIFA after celebrating en masse like that – leading him to do some digging into the regulations over such matters.

Suveizdis argues that while FIFA have deemed provocative gestures, climbing on perimeter fencing and pulling shirts over heads to be caution-worthy offences, Sepp and co. don’t say anything about posing for pony team photos and therefore Ventspils shouldn’t be subject to any retrospective sanctions.

Forgive our saying, but we can’t help but feel “inordinately ridiculous wastage of time” may be the issue here.
