We’ve only just hit March but it seems that Guanacasteca defender Michael Duran may have already got one hand on the Festus Baise Award for the most skilfully-executed own-goal of the year with his supremely nonchalant effort against Puntarenas in the Costa Rican top flight this weekend.
With the ball cannoning back off the crossbar, Duran took his time, composed himself, flicked the ricochet up off his chest and, with the flourish of a virtuoso, proceeded to nestle a perfect-judged header over his own goalkeeper…
Technique for days. It gets ten Higuita thumbs-up from Pies.
For the record, Puntarenas went on to win 3-1.
