England 4-0 Lithuania – Euro 2016 Qualifiers – 27th Match 2015

England continued their 100% winning start to the Euro 2016 qualifiers with an easy win at home to Lithuania.

Despite the clamour for his inclusion from the start, Tottenham hitman Harry Kane was handed a substitute’s role by Roy Hodgson.

Indeed, it was the Danny Welbeck, who had been expected to make way for Kane in the starting XI, who impressed throughout in a wide berth. The Arsenal man was involved in most of the hosts good work, and netted himself to make it 2-0 after Wayne Rooney had opened the scoring early on.

After the break, Raheem Sterling made it 3-0 before Kane, on as a sub, headed home unmarked after just 80 seconds on the pitch, a fine moment for the in-form youngster. Roy of the Rovers stuff.

Overall, the England were never troubled and now find themselves six points clear at the top of Group E. Although, arguably the continued paucity of quality in England’s qualifying groups in both World Cups and European Championships mean that, when the finals come around, the Three Lions’ player are unprepared for top notch opposition.

Anyway, a fine night for Kane and England, although injuries to Welbeck, Sterling and Leighton Baines won’t have impressed their respective club bosses.

some people might be jaw-dropped with utter disbelief that england started with 4 defenders and 3 central midfileders, at home, to lithuania – but not me! oh no! i’ve always said woy is a football genius – in fact, in hammering lithuanium (i forget if its 10 or 15 world cup semi finals they’ve played in since the eaely 90s) i’m willing to bet anyone a shilling to a six-pence that not only will the netherlands, belgium, spain, italy, germany, portugal, france and andorra be shitting themselves at having to face us in the tournament-propper, but woy will get w’knighted for being the england manager with the w’highest ever win percentage! (and to think, some people think confused old pensioners with dementia should be sacked after the worst ever world cup showing!!) #givetheoldcodgeratenyeardeal

@wankerwoy: To be fair, it doesn’t matter who manages England.

Fact is, England are an average side. You can’t just get a new manager in who will transform their mediocrity.

I was all pumped up to watch England play last year in Brazil, and my god I was disappointed.

You could have Mourinho & Guardiola BOTH in charge and they would get the same results.

England are an average team who have expectation levels far outweighing their actual ability.

    Deal with it.
