Northern Ireland 2-1 Finland – Euro 2016 Qualifiers – 29th March 2015

A Kyle Lafferty brace kept Northern Ireland will in the hunt for a place at EURO 2016 after an impressive display against Finland.

Mixu Paatelainen’s visitors started brightly but eventually the hosts made the breakthrough just after the half-hour mark, when Lafferty volleyed home from a Niall McGinn header. The Çaykur Rizespor strike then made it 2-0 on 38 minutes courtesy of a header from a Conor McLaughlin centre.

After the break, the home side were once again the better team. However, a late goal from Berat Sadik, after ‘keeper Roy Carroll spilled a shot from Roman Eremonko, made for a nervy finale. But the Northern Irish stood firm to secure another vital win which sees them just a point behind Group F leaders Romania.

I am seriously considering booking 2 tickets to beautiful France next summer!

If we can get a good result against Romania at Windsor Park, we’re definitely on the way.

England are good as there already of course.

I can see Wales giving Belgium a good test (which is their only serious competition for qualification). A draw against the Belgians should make qualification a distinct possibility.

I would love it if Scotland & the Republic could both qualify, but you have to be honest and look at the might of Germany & Poland. It’s going to be a long shot.

Good luck to all the home nations & the Republic, see yous in Paris next summer with any luck!
