He took two stabs at it but Lionel Messi eventually prodded home his 400th goal for Barcelona in their 2-0 win over Valencia yesterday.
This all coming after Luis Suarez (who received a standing ovation after being subbed off) opened the scoring for the league-leaders in the very first minute of the game…

So that’s 400 goals for Messi in 471 competitive games and he’s still only 27 years old. Insane.
No wonder he celebrated with a little lie down – the poor sod must be knackered!
Over in Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in Spanish football history to score 50 – fifty! – goals in five consecutive seasons by sticking away Real’s third in their 3-1 victory over Malaga.
Madness. Complete and utter madness.
It’s high time all of Messi and Ronaldo’s historical football stats and records be separated into their own special elite column just to redress the balance and give everybody else a chance.
