We’re a little late on the uptake here so humble apologies where due, but the US Womens’ side beat the Republic of Ireland 3-0 in a pre-World Cup warm-up game in San Jose on Sunday afternoon.

Just when it looked like Ireland were going to make it to the interval with a clean sheet the US struck two minutes before half-time following a disastrous string of events.

In the 43rd minute, Ireland defender Ruesha Littlejohn’s attempted clearance belted teammate Meabh De Burca square in the face and, as goalkeeper Niamh Reid-Burke momentarily paused to check on her poleaxed friend, Abby Wambach popped up to ruthlessly slot the ball into the largely vacated net…

Those cold, unfeeling Yankee bastards!

If anything, Reid-Burke was only guilty of caring too much.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, the keeper is an idiot for checking on her defender when the ball is just feet away from her.

  2. SG says:

Play to the whistle. I see nothing wrong there.

  3. What4 says:

So the Americans are massive cunts. What a big surprise.

  4. Hootie says:

That would have been a spectacular own-goal were it not for the facial intervention.

  5. Jarren says:

Yep, nothing wrong with this. Play to the whistle.

Very amateurish from the Irish keeper.

  6. ToonArmyTX says:

Wow, that entire thing happens in less than 5 seconds and there is a crowd of people between Wambach and the keeper, how in the HELL is she supposed to see that? You make it sound like she’s a coldhearted asshole when in fact Abbie Wambach is known in the sport for her sportsmanship. I love Pies, but this is pretty harsh one one of the all-time great footballers.

  7. ToonArmyMKE says:

    Yeah, piss off, Pies.

@What4, If it wasn’t for us, you’d all have been speaking German after 1819. Oh yeah, and after 1940 something. And driving Fiats.
