Thanks largely to his ability to shoot with raw, thumping power and surgical precision, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink bowed out with a procession of spectacular goals to his name.

Perhaps the archetypal Hasselbaink dead-ball humper came during his Middlesbrough days, with this nigh-on supersonic free-kick scored in a 1-1 draw with Man City in 2005.

230 km/h is stretching it a bit, but that thing still bloody flew – and pinged in off the crossbar too, which always helps…

That was the game that Man City manager and renowned master tactician Stuart Pearce first pushed goalkeeper David James up front as an auxiliary target man in the dying minutes.

The weird thing was it wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment thing, as confirmed by the fact that James had a pre-printed outfield shirt stashed away in the dug-out…

The experiment, as you might imagine, was a resounding failure.

Anyway, we digress. Because we’re feeling generous, here’s another vastly underrated and largely forgotten Jimmy goal from his Cardiff City days, with the Dutch striker this time mixing a little finesse in with the thunder…

By ‘eck, the man could strike a football! So pure. So powerful.

Oh what the hell, we’re going to chuck this one in as well…

Never say we don’t treat you here at Pies.
