On May 18th, 1974, Lou Reed played a gig at Charlton Athletic’s The Valley ground in front of 75,000 people (well, that was the number of tickets sold, but add in the fakes and the people who jumped the turnstiles and the crowd was surely far higher).

These were the flyers and posters advertising the show. Reed was supporting The Who, headliners on the third leg of his ‘Sally Can’t Dance’ tour. Also on the bill were 1970s blues and folk-rock mainstays such as Montrose, Lindisfarne, Bad Company, Humble Pie and Maggie Bell…
