Already relegated to League One, Charlton hosted promotion-chasing Brighton on Saturday afternoon, with Addicks’ fans keen to make their feelings known about owner Roland Duchatelet.

The fans held a pre-match protest outside the Valley. Then, soon after kick-off, they tried to disrupt the game by launching hundreds of beach balls onto the pitch…

Belgian millionaire Duchatelet bought the club in January 2014 but has overseen a period of lack of direction off the pitch and poor form on the field of play, which has culminated in the London side’s relegation out of the Championship.

As for the game itself, visitors Brighton secured a precious 3-1 win which sees them go level on points at the top of the table with both Burnley and Middlesbrough, although the Seagulls’ inferior goal difference sees them placed third in the rankings. As for Charlton, they find themselves second from bottom and with much work to be done.

5000 peaceful protesters warmly supported by Brighton fans. At the very least a victory for democracy and a powerful message to an ownership that doesn’t care.
Measure that against one negative inarticulate comment on here that appears to be the work of a blithering idiot
