While Euro 2016 has already produced a plethora of fine goals and high-quality entertainment, the dark side of football has unfortunately reared it’s pathetically ugly head, with hooliganism and violence polluting the streets of France.

England’s clash with Russia in Marseille proved to be a major flashpoint in the competition so far, with fans clashing both inside and outside the stadium.

While there has been much analysis and apportioning of blame over the trouble, new GoPro footage released by a Russian fan at the centre of the hooliganism shows some of the horrific violence which occurred in Marseille.

The video documents a number of ugly clashes with England fans, with a worrying lack of French police apparently present.

It’s pretty grim stuff, so beware…

England face Wales in Lens on Thursday, a day after Russia play Slovakia in nearby Lille, with the chances of more trouble are very high indeed. But let’s hope those fears are unfounded and we can all focus exclusively on the action taking place on the pitch.
