The Republic of Ireland’s rollercoaster EURO 2016 ride came to a final halt on Sunday, with the Boys In Green losing 2-1 to hosts France. Robbie Brady had put the Irish into a surprise lead after just two minutes, via a spot-kick, and Martin O’Neill’s side almost increased their lead in the first-half.

However, after the break, France improved, with Antoine Griezmann bagging a brace and centre-half Shane Duffy seeing red.

Despite the defeat, the Irish fans were once again on top form, with players and staff taking time out after the final whistle to observe a superb rendition of ‘Fields of Athenry’.

While a number of the Republic’s edler statesman now look set to retire, the performances of the likes of Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick and ‘keeper Darren Randolph bodes well for the future.

As for the fans, they’ve once again made EURO 2016 that little bit more special for everyone.
